Can you be a Natural Singer?

One question that I keep getting from upcoming singers is “Can you be a natural singer”

And the answer to this question is it depends

Now here is my reason for saying so

Everyone has the ability to sing and get the basics right

But the ability to sing well and sing professionally needs to be studied and learnt

Think about it for a minute

If everyone was born with the natural ability to become a singer, then we will all become multi platinum singers with awesome recording and publishing music deals

Yes singing comes to some people easier than others but for some others singing well and with confidence can be learned and mastered

So to answer the earlier question “Can you be a natural singer?” the answer is NO… but you can definitely learn the basics and go on to become a professional and better singer.

How to tell if you have a good singing voice

Most people really do not know if they have a good singing voice or not.

And this tends to stop them from pursuing their career as a singer or go on to do greater things in the music industry

Here I will be showing you 5 signs you can easily use to know if you have a good singing voice

1. Singing makes you come alive

If you find yourself always happy and euphoric when you start singing, then you definitely have a good singing voice.

Singing can be emotionally and mentally elevating for some people that it feels like they are in another plane of existence.

At other times it can mean that you feel very much in your body, mindful of every sensation and movement in your body

At other times it can make you feel both ways

If this is you and you feel pure joy when you sing 90% of the time, then it might mean you have a good singing voice and you should explore that option.

2. Vocal lessons and practice are so much fun

A sure sign that perhaps you won’t become a pro singer is that singing bores you.

If you daydream during most of your voice lessons or practice sessions about being, chances are it won’t motivate you for the long haul.

It’s possible you’re bored because you’re not singing the repertoire that you enjoy, or that your teacher is not a good fit for you.

Still, passionate singers find ways to enjoy and sing through dull songs or difficult routines.

3. All you ever think about is singing

Ever had that feeling where all you ever want to do is sing?

Or seen any of those statements that say you should choose singing as your life’s work if that’s all you ever want to do.

What this means is that singing is something that requires constant practice, hardwork and dedication.

This does not mean that you do not have other hobbies or pursue other passions, it just means that you take singing seriously and dedicate your time to it

If this is you and you have these thoughts then it means you have a good singing voice and you should think about taking up singing as a career.

4. Singing does not feel like work

When you’re born to sing, then singing even in the crummiest of circumstances or settings never feels like a job.

You’re happy to try balancing your singing time with school, work, and family.

Getting paid for gigs keeps the pursuit alive and it makes you happy, but you realize that it’s not your primary purpose.

5. You have no problems dealing with constructive criticisms

This is tough for most of us.

And perhaps, being able to take constructive criticism (positive, encouraging diagnosis of vocal problems) about your singing is more accurately a sign of your maturity than it is of your singing ability.

Natural singers who work hard to learn and improve also welcome and accept criticism from their teachers or mentors.

Handling criticism gracefully is a surefire sign that lets you know you’re on the right track of improvement.

Can I Sing Good? Take this test to know

Before you can start singing or become a really good singer, there are some tests you can take to know how good you can sing

The first one is called the Tone Deaf Test

What this test does it to find out if you are tone deaf or not

This is essential because most people are actually tone deaf but do not know they suffer from such.

Most times it is actually a lack of musical training which is to blame for their apparent difficulty in judging musical notes

So what this test does is that it measures your pitch sensitivity

This tests whether you have the fundamental abilities you need, which can then be developed and improved through ear training and singing practice.

The test is divided into three stages, each of which tests a different pitch judgement skill. Your overall score is used to determine the likelihood that you are truly tone deaf. If you pass the test you can be quite confident you have the fundamental pitch abilities required to become a good musician.

The second one you can take is this short quiz that shows you good your singing voice is

This test will help you know how well you can sing.

Remember, the more honest you are, the more accurate your result will be! P.S.:

If you wouldn’t mind, please tell me in the comments what you thought about my quiz.

And if you didn’t like your answer and really think you CAN sing, I think you should try.

It’s just one person’s opinion, and all kinds of voices appeal to all kinds of people.

Conclusion:

One thing you should remember is that singers are made not born

Yes you can have some of the initial voice and you have the basics down but singing does not come naturally to everyone

You need to dedicate your time and energy to ensure that it works and your become a better singer
